ABOUT HANNAH'S HEARTSONG

Mission

Hannah's Heartsong is a non-denominational Christian ministry that encourages stepmoms to seek God wholeheartedly in everyday challenges and inspires them on their journeys of faith.

Let the cries of your heart become your song of faith.

Hannah’s Heartsong Ministries is a journey of faith. It started as a personal journal and a series of coffee dates with other stepmoms who were seeking support. I felt a burden for these stepmoms who needed someone to validate what they were experiencing and feeling. The cries of these women and my own burdened “stepmom heart” spilled over into a blog. The intent was to create a collective for stepmoms to share, gain understanding and find solace in the fact that stepmoms are not on their journeys alone.

That once monthly blog has grown into Hannah’s Heartsong and joined forces with LifePrep.Tools to offer encouraging apparel, art and gifts with faith-based messages.

Who inspired “Hannah’s Heartsong?”

When you read God’s Word, you will discover a steadfast stepmom – Hannah. On a daily basis, she experienced the same heartaches that stepmoms face today. She was mistreated and disrespected by those in her circle of influence. Not only was she a stepmom … she had no children of her own, “adding insult to injury.” Her husband was blind to the mistreatment, her church did not support or encourage her.

A woman after God’s heart, she kept her eyes and her heart focused on Him. She had faith that God would keep his promises to her. The cries of this stepmom’s heart became her song of faith. She was blessed for her faithful prayers to God and “taking the high road.”

I Samuel 1:26 “… I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord.”

ABOUT ME

CanelosFamily-014_web.jpg
Hi! I'm Jen ... I'm a recovering "fixer."

I am a persevering step mom and recovering "fixer." 10 years ago, I went from 40 and single … to “fully-loaded”married, with a “crash-tested” husband and 3 “quick-shifting” children. It was like slipping into the sleek leather seat of a brand, new car and it handled great! (Translation: I was overly confident in my “step-abilities.”) I wrote about the experiences of our new family in a blog ... with joy and humor. As the kids (and parents) grew older, the family dynamic continuously shifted. Like that car, after a few hundred thousand miles, the newness wore off, the trunk was full of baggage and the gears started to slip. It began to make a lot of noise. Let’s face it … that new car smell was gone! All these years later ... the ride has finally smoothed and God taught me that no matter how hard I try, I cannot fix that which I did not break, especially when it's a family. There are no 12-step programs for recovering fixers. I had to turn the broken pieces over to God and let Him put them back together ... in His way ... in His time.

I've been on hiatus from this ministry for some time. My absence can be most easily explained through one of my last blogs. I resurrected a few past posts in hopes they might encourage you.
