Twisting In The Winds Of Change

I’ve been twisting and turning in a literal hurricane of mixed emotions the past few months, amidst a flurry of activities, events and life and career changes. I can’t even begin to verbalize what I am feeling at any given moment.

What I do know is that I am not alone. Many are going through similar stages with graduating seniors, moving to new homes, facing career transitions, and looking at an “overstuffed” calendar of endless summer activities. Good or bad, changes bring changes that only bring more changes.

A few days ago, a friend looked at me with tears in her eyes and in her exasperation said, “I don’t even know what to pray for, I don’t know how to do this.”

We discussed how to pray … “Do not pray for patience!” We’ve all learned that the hard way. My suggestion to her was to pray for a joyful heart. That has been my constant prayer these past few years … through the chaos of change and uncertainty … I pray for a peaceful, joyful heart. My friend confirmed that she did pray and it helped calm her anxious heart.

You may not “know how to do this,” but God does. No matter what you are facing – frustration, chaos, brokenness, sorrow – whatever it is, know that when you reach the other side, you’ll discover that God was present in the “hurricane” with you. Most importantly, you’ll find He used it for His glory.

In our short-sided, human-ness, we can’t see it when we are “in it.” If you pray for a peaceful, joyful heart, when the storm passes and the clouds give way to the light, you will find God is ever-present and never-changing, steadfast in the winds of change.

Romans 15:32

And that if it’s God’s will, I may come to you with a joyful heart and be refreshed and encouraged together with you.

Philippians 4:7

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
